Mental Health And Addiction

Mental Health

According to a CDC analysis published in September 2022, among adults aged 18–44, the percentage who had received any mental health treatment increased from 2019 to 2021 across large and medium or small metropolitan and nonmetropolitan areas. In addition, more than a third (37%) of high school students reported they experienced poor mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic, and 44% reported they persistently felt sad or hopeless during the past year. For those battling depression and other types of mental disorders, help often seems out of reach, even with support and access to resources. To those without support, it can feel like an endless downward spiral.

How we support

We work with local organizations and mental health professionals and services across the community who offer pro bono services or, who are able to shepherd participants to the appropriate set of resources. Additionally, Linking Hearts acts as a primary point of contact, and our founder and staff work to maintain a relationship with the client to foster a sense of connection and secondary support. In fact, one of the most important aspects of our work is continued follow up with clients, even after the initial service. All services are based on availability, program capacity, and organizational resources.

Addiction

According to the 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), and the 2019 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention WONDER database, 20.4 million people in the United States were diagnosed with substance abuse disorders (SUD) in the survey time period. Only 10.3 percent of those people received SUD treatment, and nearly 71,000 people died of drug overdoses in 2019. These numbers are staggering but in this age, experts agree that addiction is a chronic, treatable disorder that can be overcome with the correct treatment intervention and support.

How we support

Our organization works with addiction counselors, faith-based organizations, and substance abuse centers to connect participants to the best available treatment options in the local community. Linking Hearts tracks progress, and functions as a supplement to the client’s existing support system. We believe that a purposeful life is essential to continued success so in many cases, we offer program participants the opportunity to engage in positive, productive activities, from fun sports outings to volunteering. All services are based on availability, program capacity, and organizational resources.
